The City Council returns from its winter break

Hello Ward One residents,

The City Council returns from its winter break on Wednesday January 8 at 7:30 PM. Here is a link to the agenda; As always, you are welcome to comment in person or virtually at the CC meeting. All meetings are held in the Community Center Auditorium, @ 7500 Maple Ave. Register here by 5:00 PM on Wednesday to comment virtually, allowing time for tech arrangements to be made.

The agenda this week includes the following:

  • A consultant’s presentation on transitioning the City’s vehicle fleet to electric vehicles (30-minute presentation; 30-minute Q&A) [Note: Here is the consultant’s detailed report on vehicle fleet electrificationI would welcome input on this report from anyone who has expertise in the field – whether on the vehicles themselves, vehicle charging stations (how many, which sort to invest in), or recommended timing — if possible, in advance of Wednesday’s presentation.]
  • A work session on reviewing State legislative proposals, and setting up of a Bill Review Working Group (15-minute presentation; 15-minute discussion)
  • An introduction to City Boards and Committees, Council Committee Liaisons, and establishment of a Working Group to Review Applications (20-minute presentation; 20- minute discussion) [Note: here is the document containing background information and membership rosters for these City Committees and Commissions. Please let me know if you are interested in serving on any of these bodies, or have comments on their missions, etc.]

Finally, some ‘news you can use’:

  1. Fun and games: Mark your calendars for Mid-Winter Play Day: February 16th from 1-4 PM at Piney Branch Elementary, 7510 Maple Ave. FREE games, activities and entertainment for all!
  2. Cleaning up: We have a City ‘Adopt a Spot’ Program, through which you can volunteer to keep a street or local park tidy. A sign is posted that recognizes volunteers’ (individual or group) efforts. To learn more and/or register, go here [and please let me know if you decide to participate!]
